3rd Granite 614 - Embarking with seven dwarves from Ferocious Hall (Nidostiton), a nearly extinct dwarven civilization in the world of Ospazmata.  The biomes for this are similar to the Sarveshuvar (Furnacelull) embark, since it will be situated on the same biome boundary.  This will be along the very western edge of the map on that isolated island.

Using my standard embark with geese, turkeys and blue peafowl as well as pigs, dogs and cats.  The starting seven are peasants.  We embark with a bit of stone, some food/drink, two picks and a wood cutter's axe.

Goals are to get to 150 dwarves, get steel production up, and get the king to migrate.  Heavy use of quantum-stockpiles is expected in order to maximize framerate.

The embark is perfectly flat.  A check of DFHack "prospect all" reveals:

  • Magma is at Z-19 (no tubes), about 120 Z-levels from the surface.
  • There is clay at Z97-Z98 in various forms (mostly loam or silty).
  • Granite is at Z-23 to Z+77 and is the primary stone.
  • Above Z+77 is a mix of quartzite (+80 to +82), gneiss (+84 to +88), sandstone/limestone (+92 to +96).
  • Cassiterite (below Z+47) is the primary metal ore, followed by gold (Z+78 to Z+92), limonite (Z+92 to Z+96), sphalerite (Z+55 to Z+60), hematite (Z+92 to Z+96), Galena (Z+74 to Z+77) and tetrahedrite (Z+80 to Z+82).  So I will have plenty of tin, but not much gold, iron or copper.
  • Surface shrubs of interest include prickle berries, whip vine, rat weed, rope reed, and fisher berries.
  • The third cavern layer looks to be sandwiched into the -14 to -18 range.  The other cavern layers are up to Z+78 (surface is Z+101).
  • The primary surface tree is Willow, followed by Ash, Hazel, Chestnut, Pear, Bayberry, Oak and Cherry.

Again, since we are settling Cudgelfield on the same biome boundary as Furnacelull, this will all be very similar with few surprises.

The game automatically creates a king for the civilization when you embark for a "dead" civ that has no sites left.  The liaison, however, gets picked from whomever controls the last site to be taken?

21st Hematite - Migrants arrive.  Fortress population is now 11.  The four migrants in this first wave come in with no relations at all (as expected for an "extinct" dwarven civ).

The surface fortifications are coming along nicely.  Left side is a bridge leading to a 2x3 stairs to the farms / exterior workshops.  Right side will be (eventually) the trade depot wagon entrance.

Stonesense view:

9th Limestone - Our goblin liaison Unib Degsodel from NIdostiton has arrived, as has the dwarven caravan.

News - "Lush Ghoul" has been on a rampage, taking various sites and creating refugees.

1st Timber - Migrants arrive, bringing fortress to 15 population.

1st Moonstone - Winter has arrived.  We have about 200 drink on hand and maybe 200 prepared meals.  Plenty of sweet pod and plump helmet seeds.  The surface farm is a 1x3 growing prickle berries.

There's a bit of a bird explosion going on, which is good.  The butcher is starting to kill off the excess poults.  Bridges have been hooked up to levers.

2nd Opal - Mining accident wounds 'Miner' Ral Nisharzes.  Kubuk Shamebcerol gets promoted to Chief Medical Dwarf.  Oops, Ral, didn't make it and died at the bottom of the staircase.

First year, one dwarf dead.  Off to a very good start, eh?
